Working in Partnership.

Peterborough City Council, including Libraries, Museum, and Media Workshop, have worked in partnership with the following:

  • Burghley House. This largest and grandest house of the first Elizabethan age was completed by William Cecil, Lord Burghley, in 1587. Today, 18 state rooms filled with wonderful paintings, furniture and fine art are open to visitors. Burghley House Preservation Trust is responsible for the management and interpretation of the house itself and its extensive collection relating to the particular lifestyle of the Cecil family.
  • Thorney Heritage Society. The Thorney Heritage Museum is an independent museum operated by The Thorney Society. The main aim is the preservation of the heritage of Thorney and to be a point of contact for education, research and general interest. The museum has been open since 1987 and is a Registered Museum.
  • Nene Valley Railway. The steam railway and museum have been an important local attraction since 1977. The line runs from Wansford to Peterborough, with stations at Ferry Meadows and Orton Mere. Services run at weekends, half terms and bank holidays throughout the summer, and at Christmas. The Service is mainly run by volunteers, who also maintain the small museum and gift shop at Wansford.
  • Cambridgeshire Record Office. A statutory County archive repository with considerable material relating to the Peterborough area. Cambridgeshire Archives Service is dedicated to preserving the written heritage of the people of Cambridgeshire, the Isle of Ely and Huntingdonshire, and to making these documents available to the public.
  • Northamptonshire Record Office. A statutory County archive repository with considerable material relating to the Peterborough area. A great variety of records, in different formats, are preserved: charters, court rolls, deeds, parish and nonconformist registers, maps, letters, diaries, accounts, minute books, wills, photographs and films.
