An ornamental flourish.

Burghley House.

*At the beginning of the century, the First Marquess employed the local architect William D. Legg to design the main entrance gates known as the Bottle Lodges.

For the occasions of the visits of Victoria when she was Princess and Queen, and the Queen Dowager, the Second Marquess refurbished the house, notably the George Rooms. He employed John Peter ‘Gandy’ Deering to design and build the two-storey corridor around the inner courtyard.

The boathouse, on the artificial lake, was built towards the end of the century by Blashfield of Stamford. The ice house is from this period too.
